HKU Dunhuang Mogao Caves Internship Programme 2026

View PDFThe Dunhuang Academy will offer multiple docent internship positions to students from the University of Hong Kong. The program includes approximately two weeks of training and internship, during which participants will help promote Dunhuang culture.
The internship covers Dunhuang’s human geography, professional docent training, thematic studies, and on-site interpretation. Students will visit major cave sites, including the Mogao Caves, the Yulin Caves, and the Western Thousand Buddha Caves, as well as historical sites such as Yangguan, Yumen Pass, and Xuanquan Zhi, and will exchange ideas with local scholars. After completing the program and passing the assessment, students can become trainee docents at the Mogao Caves, guiding tourists through the caves and promoting Dunhuang culture.

Mid-Nov to mid-Dec 2026: Briefing session, online training courses, and tests
27 Dec 2026 to 11 Jan 2027: On-site training, assessment, and cave guide internship
Fees: Students are responsible for purchasing their own round-trip air tickets, dinner during the internship period, and any additional personal activities
HKU Subsidy: Accommodation, breakfast and lunch, training, exchange activities, and insurance
Deposit: Selected students are required to pay a deposit of HKD 2,000. The full amount will be refunded after the programme if the student complies with all programme rules, completes the entire internship and preparatory activities, and submits the activity report on time.
