Long Trips
Heaven and Himalayas: Exploring Tibet (2026 June)
3 Jun 2026
View PDFHKU team once again ventured above 5,200 metres, embarking on an expedition to Mount Everest and the northern Tibetan Plateau.
In addition to visiting monasteries to deepen their understanding of Tibetan Buddhist culture, the team stayed at Everest Base Camp and undertook hikes beneath the vast highland sky.
For the first time, the Centre led HKU students deep into the northern Tibetan Plateau. Travelling along the Qiangtang Grassland, the team tracked rare Tibetan wildlife, including Tibetan antelopes, Tibetan gazelles, Tibetan wolves, wild yaks, and black-necked cranes. The expedition also included visits to sky burial sites and skull walls, offering profound reflections on life and death.
