The CERS Zhongdian centre is located in Shangri-La, Yunnan Province. The centre is one of the largest and major CERS education centres, to support WHMCE research and student visits.
The centre is well-equipped with facilities for seminars and conferences, and several exhibition rooms that showcase the rarest artifacts and ethnographic objects collected by CERS in its expeditions throughout the past decades, including artifacts from different minority groups in remote China, including Tibetan, the Ewenki group in the northeast China and the Lisu tribe.
Near the centre is the Napahai, the wetland where the endangered Black-necked Crane will stay during their migration, and at the Xiangguqing Nature Reserve at the Weixi County, is the habitat of the Yunnan Snub-nosed Monkey and where the traditional wooden houses of the Lisu tribe are preserved.
Scholars and students will also get the chance to explore the culture and religion of the Tibetan zone by the visit to sites including the CERS Damo Cave project site, the Cizong catholic church and winery.
Except the regular routines across the Yunnan Province, the HKU exploration trips also extend the footstep to Litang, Sichuan Province, where students will visit multiple sites including the yak cheese factory, one of CERS’ previous projects.
